Malaysia exceeded our expectations. We marveled at Kuala Lumpur’s iconic Petronas Towers, explored the Batu Caves,and indulged in vibrant night markets. Langkawi’s beautiful beaches, mangrove forests, and breathtaking sunsets left us spellbound. Our kids loved the wildlife and majestic Mount Kinabalu in Borneo. As food lovers we were in heaven – the mix of Malay, Chinese and Indian cuisine was a true delight. The climate was great just the way we liked it.

Kuala Lumpur’s bustle was a shock to my system. After going around Kuala Lumpur we headed to Penang with a planned stopover at Cameron Highlands. As we entered Cameron Highlands we were struck by the strawberry fields. It seemed like the perfect place for relaxation. But we soon realized that it was more suited for guided tours of tea farms and plantations.
One thing that surprised me was how easily we could communicate with the Malaysians in English. Though it is recommended at some places to know a few Malay words and phrases. There were moments when the Malaysians struggled to describe local dishes but that just added to the charm of our journey.
Taman Negara, one of the world’s oldest rainforests left us awestruck. The sheer diversity of wildlife like the Malaysian tiger, pygmy elephant and orangutans was breathtaking.
Getting around Malaysia
